This article has a ton of insight when it comes to the kind of experience you will recieve depending on if you start in a small or large agency. However, I think it depends on what side of the advertising you're on. If you're a creative, the chance to work in a small agency will give you various experiences that you wouldn't get the chance to, compared to working on a large agency because of the compartmentalization. However, coming from an account management background, I believe working in a large agency will help you progress faster in your career because you're dealing with larger clients that have larger budgets. Also, for a college student who has student loans to pay back, working in a large agency has an advantage because of the larger salary.
